Why so many embrace the Austin life

There are many reasons why The Travel Channel named Austin, TX America’s Best College Town, and why it’s also one of the fastest growing cities in the US, because Austin is considered “hip and great” among the younger crowd. Given that Austin has been known as the place to go and for its live music scene for the last several years, it’s no surprise that many of these youngsters after growing up decided to move to the area. The live music scene is just one of the reasons young people prefer life in Austin to anywhere else, as there are many others.

Austin is probably best known among young people in the US for its film and music festival called South by Southwest and for the three-day music festival that features a wide range of musical acts, from indie to emo to mainstream, called Austin City Limits Festival. However, music isn’t the only reason hipsters enjoy the area so much, it’s simply a manifestation of the overall arts and culture scene that sums up the city of Austin as a whole. In fact, the reasons music continually flourishes and is produced from Austin is because the population of the city as a whole is eccentric, open, and willing to try anything once.

Another reason Austin is so popular and has a population that has been named the second most interesting in the US is because it has a thriving local and independent small business scene. Although Austin is home to major corporations like AMD, eBay/Paypal, and Dell, remember that all of these companies made their homes in the corporate world by innovating and being different. So it should come as no surprise that the people who work for them thrive and take pride in being different and are also open to innovative creative thinking.

With all of this in mind, it should come as no surprise that Austin’s unofficial motto found on t-shirts and bumper stickers all over town is “Keep Austin Weird.” Young hipsters looking for an identity at school or outside embrace the city that embraces them to identify with their non-traditional sides and discover what they really like and want. In addition, it is sure to add much more fun than the more conventional cities.

In fact, throughout the year, Austin hosts many non-traditional annual events, such as the Henry Pun Off (a competition in which people compete for the best wit award), the Eeyore’s Birthday Bash, the Eastern Reggae Festival of Austin and the Pecan Street Festival on Calle Sexta. What’s not to love about a city that offers you more eclectic events and open-minded opportunities than anywhere else in America!
