How to quit your day job and stop working 9-5

Thousands of people around the world have successfully quit their day jobs. If you start following your goals and passions, you can become one of the many people who become entrepreneurs. Just think: you can be your own boss!

When making a major life change to become an entrepreneur, you want to be sure that you are pursuing your passions. After all, you’re probably leaving a job that didn’t fulfill you and left you feeling unhappy. As an entrepreneur, you want to find a job that you love. If you’re excited about going to work every day, you’re likely to achieve a higher level of success.

Many people experience a moment of clarity at some point and gain insight into how they can translate one of their interests or passions into their work. If you want to quit your day job, but aren’t sure what you’d like to do instead, don’t panic. For many people who have worked for a long time in an unfulfilling job, it can take a little time to clear the mind and connect with the passions.

In the meantime, feel free to take a few classes that we hope you’ll enjoy. For example, do you like hiking? Perhaps you can join a meeting group of outdoor enthusiasts who take regular trips. Do you enjoy art? If so, perhaps a photography or pottery class would be a good option.

Even if you don’t think these classes are necessarily relevant to a potential new career, go ahead and sign up anyway. The point is to get yourself out of your comfort zone and into the spirit of trying new things. Sometimes when we begin to follow our true interests and passions, we may refresh a past memory or receive a flash of insight. These insights are sometimes called “ah-ha moments.” In the ah-ha moment, you may suddenly have a clear idea about a possible business path or interest that could eventually lead to money-making potential.

Once you have decided on your new intended career path, feel free to go ahead and take the plunge and quit your day job if you can. Yet another path many entrepreneurs take is to start working on a new job as a side project. This path is less risky, as you will have the security of receiving a salary while changing direction in your life.

Even if you work from 9 to 5 and have a hectic schedule, you can still find time to spend even a little time on your new business. Even two hours a week will eventually add up and everyone can take two hours a week to put into an effort. Just think, if you work just two hours a week at your new business, in a month that would be eight hours dedicated to your new life. Over a 6-month period, you will have dedicated 54 hours to your new career. This kind of dedication will ultimately lead you to leave your day job with determination and reach a new level of success.
