Bowling through the eyes of physics

Physics is clearly the study of calculating the mathematics of the movements that can be of objects such as human beings and bowling balls. Friction is the main cause of the bowl slowing down after the ball has been thrown down the lane. The magnitude of friction generally depends on the surface area of ​​the bowling lane. The lane generally affects the speed at which the ball will roll based on the material the surface is made of, the amount of oil in the lane, and the total mass of the ball. The more oil in the bowling lane, the lower the friction and the harder it is for the bowler to send the ball on a curved path that has been impacted by the spin the bowler puts into the instant release.

Gravity is also another component of physics that affects the outcome of bowling. Skittles have a low center of gravity due to their shape which automatically makes them more stable. The bowling ball, on the other hand, does not have the center of gravity at the absolute center of the ball. The position of the center of gravity is usually indicated by the position of the logo or punch mark on the surface of the bowling ball. There are four basic principles that affect the physics of bowling.

We have the potential energy, the direction of the initial force, the direction of the impact, and the action of the pin. When we consider potential energy, we look at the height from which the bowler drops the ball. This will affect the amount of potential energy the ball will have. If the bowler bowls with a straight ball, it will not affect his game in any way, therefore it is in the bowlers best interest to keep the ball as close to the line as possible at the time of bowling. The more potential energy the ball has when released, the longer it will bounce as it travels down the lane and this means the hook ball will not catch any friction from the lane.

So we have the direction of the initial force, and here we find that the shooter must release the ball with a force that is perfectly parallel to the velocity of the horizon and must also be of the vertical velocity. Any force that is not parallel to the horizon is wasting energy. The horizontal kinetic energy that normally remains after the ball has traveled down the lane is what is used to collide with the pins.

When it comes to the direction of impact, we find that when the bowler throws with a hook, he is taking advantage of friction and the ball is reduced in the direction of the bowling. Finally we have the action of the pin, it is the work of elastic collisions and we find that when the pin hits one it automatically sends that pin to the other pins and to others until all the pins have been hit and we find that each collision that takes place is due to kinetic energy. Physics is the force behind the success of every player.
