10 video games that need sequels

10) Dark Cloud
This game came out when people were still warming up to the PS2. I was blown away when I saw the graphics and it was refreshing not having to deal with turn-based RPGs for a change. Dark Cloud 2 was okay, but I don’t know why developers love making everything shaded, it’s unacceptable for anything not DBZ related.

9) Harvest Moon
There are many games with this title, but few can match the gameplay and quirkiness that fans fell in love with in the first place. I personally find Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life to be the end of the series, although Island of Happiness is enjoyable. The DS is fun, but I want to see Harvest Moon on the next-gen systems.

8) ShenMue
This game on Dreamcast is highly underrated. It is recorded in history as the most expensive game ever made, in the hundreds of millions. Shenmue combines elements of RPGs, action games, and mystery genres with an added edge of kung fu.

7) Breath of Fire
Breath of Fire 1 was a very nice old school RPG: build your character, pick up team members along the way, explore and get treasures, kick bad guys. There is nothing wrong with that simple formula. Breath of Fire 2 did the series justice by providing the same level of enjoyment as the first, but since then the games seem to have lost their shine and moved away from the aspects that made the game great to begin with. Remake the first one, put it on the PS3 and watch them fly off the shelves.

6) Heroes of Might and Magic
The first 2 games in this series were great, but a problem arose after their release, the developers stopped caring, and the name of the series became affiliated with sub-par strategy games. Bring back the 2D graphics with a little tweak and send players out of their castle to collect gems and coal just like old times.

5) Baldur’s Gate
Baldur’s Gate took the RPG community by storm when it came out in 1998. It kept to the roots of medieval fantasy RPGs, but added a level of depth to the characters and story that made players will return. I’m not counting the various Baldur’s Gate PS2 titles that have one player running like Gauntlet Legends; I mean a true sequel to the Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 stories, fans have been waiting long enough.

4) goth 3
It looks like there’s a sequel in the works called Arcania: A Gothic Tale, the screenshots so far seem to be on par with the level of detail we’ve seen in previous games. Gothic 3 received mixed reviews, mainly due to clunky controls and annoying glitches. Looking past those flaws and playing on a fast computer, you can really see why this game is a gem and look forward to the next installment.

3) Final Fantasy VII
It is not a sequel, but a remake. Give the fans what they want, FFVII with PS3 graphics. People still play it on the PSX, so there would be no doubt that the game would sell. Characters like Sephiroth and Vincent are pretty much household names and when someone says the word Cloud, I think of a guy with yellow hair instead of water evaporating into the sky. I doubt more Final Fantasy games will match the lasting impact, so they might as well reintroduce it to fans and those who were too young in 1997 to play it.

2) Chronocross
This game was an excellent sequel to another great game: Chrono Trigger; Squaresoft needs to keep the series alive with a much-desired third installment. It’s disconcerting to see these fantastic games fade away because no one took the initiative to keep the momentum going. Chrono Cross is indeed a classic game, but later generations won’t appreciate games with PlayStation 1 graphics. Kids today don’t appreciate a good story like they used to.

1) Legend of the Dragon
Haven’t we waited long enough? It’s been almost 10 years since she came out; it’s time for Legend of Dragoon 2 to grace the PlayStation 3. It’s actually quite surprising that Sony never offered a sequel, there were mixed reviews with LOD, but there is a general consensus that it’s a really good game. Anyone in their right mind would realize that there is a gold mine in a sequel or at least a remake. Touch up the graphics, round the edges and sign me up for a copy.
