A review of "that awkward moment"

Released in theaters on January 1. On January 31, 2014, “That Awkward Moment” is a romantic comedy directed by Tom Gormican. This is Gormican’s first attempt at writing and directing a film, and for this film he cast a cast full of attractive young men. With young actors like Zac Efron, Miles Teller, and Michael B. Jordan, the movie has a variety of personalities for viewers to identify with or fall in love with. “That Awkward Moment” is a classic bromance film that centers on the adventures of three single or nearly single men in New York City.

This film has been called a male version of “Sex in the City”, and this is due to the dynamic relationship between the three male characters and the setting in modern Manhattan. Efron, who became famous for his work on “High School Musical,” plays the main character, Jason. Jason is a young man in his 20s who loves to have fun. He’s not in the love dating game. He just wants to hook up, have a good time, and move on. The same goes for Daniel, played by Miles Teller. Teller is most recognized for his roles in “Rabbit Hole” and “21 & Over.” However, this sentiment does not hold true for the third man in the group, Mikey. Mikey is played by Michael B. Jordan, who is famous for his roles on “Friday Night Lights” and “The Wire.”

After Mikey discovers that his wife is cheating on him and that she wants a divorce, the three men vow to remain single to support him and play the field, so to speak. Of course, for them, playing the field means lots of non-binding dates and meaningless hookups. The “awkward moment” to which the title refers is the moment when each of the women in their love affairs questions where the relationship is going and if they really have a future together. This premise is something every viewer can relate to, as it is something every new relationship goes through. The three friends make rules, such as not seeing a girl more than twice in a week, to stay on the path of being single. Unfortunately, throughout the film, everything doesn’t go as planned and the men have trouble staying true to their pact.

Mikey is heartbroken by the demise of this marriage, which is evident to the entire cast. As he tries to calm himself down with ice cream and self-pity, his friends insist that he get back in the game to take his mind off the problems in his life. While this is a good sentiment, the truth is that Mikey longs to get his wife back from him, no matter how bad the idea. However, he is not the only character who finds himself trapped in a girl. In fact, all three men fall in love with one woman at some point during “That Awkward Moment.” Efron’s character meets a girl named Ellie in a bar and falls in love with her. At the same time, Daniel’s “just friends” relationship with a girl he’s known for quite some time takes a romantic turn, putting him in the middle of a real relationship.

Throughout the film, the immature comedy keeps viewers laughing. The jokes and implied scenarios are unlikely to go over anyone’s head, making this movie perfect for pure entertainment. Awkward scenes, like when Jason shows up to his love interest’s family’s costume party in a wildly inappropriate costume, make viewers cringe, but in the best possible way. Mikey is perhaps the driest of all the characters, but he also finds himself in some sticky situations, which makes everyone laugh a lot. The men in this movie are immature and often engage in selfish behavior, but their actions and lines make this movie worth watching. Don’t worry about being exposed to copious amounts of sex while watching this movie, as there is actually very little.

Navigating the world of dating and the arena of love is never easy, and the characters in “That Awkward Moment” portray it realistically. Each character has their own quirks that make viewers love or hate them depending on how they look at the situations he finds himself in and the way he reacts. However, this movie is undeniably entertaining and includes humor from many angles. Whether the moviegoer is a fan of watching awkward situations unfold, a new love begin, or there are funny and well-timed lines, “That Awkward Moment” has something for everyone.
